You may want to try HDF-EOS plugin to see if the data looks good for you.

Dear HDF Group users,
The data(HDF4 files) I am downloading from NASA EOS programme is imported to HDF Viewer and its only a grid data not Images. How to parse these data to actual values? I believe they are in binery form but not actual values of the scientific data. Can anybody please help me in converting these numbers to actual data values?
Thanks and Regards
Mahesh

    Thanks peter,
Yes, this idea clicked to enable both HDF4 and HDF5 buttons near
    help tool of the application.
I could able to access HDF files downloded from NASA website.
I can read the data with available files which are all HDF4 files.
    Regards

        Hi Mahesh,

Since both "h4" and "h5" button are disabled, I am pretty sure
        that the
problem is not your file. It is a Windows XP related issue.

Our HDF5 library and Java JNI is built with .NET. Your XP
        machine may not
have the required .NET component. This is a known problem.
        Please see
the page below for the solution.
