Thanks, I'm sorry I didn't notice that. It seems to me that there are two different questions here. One regarding the user interface for entering bidi text, and the other about the implementation of that interface. I think that the second method offered (the one that doesn't rely on setting the right keyboard layout before writing neutral characters) is more user friendly. I understand this method will work better in common situations. Perhaps an easy method of explicit markup would help users fix situations where this doesn't work. About the second question, how openoffice should internally implement the bidi user interface, I cannot say. I am not an openoffice developer and I think it is up to them to decide. I think what's important is that openoffice can import word files correctly on the one hand, and copy and paste text from unicode applications on the other hand. As long as it can do this it doesn't matter if it internally uses unicode invisible characters, or character tagging.
