After Alan Yaniger released his Hspell-based Hebrew spell-checker for Open
Office, we (the Hspell project) also managed to create a Myspell dictionary
for Hebrew. We currently use this for Hebrew spell-checking in Mozilla
(see http://www.ivrix.org.il/projects/spell-checker/download.html), but if
OpenOffice also uses Myspell to do its spell-checking, this means that Hebrew
can be added just like French or any other language can be added. I still
prefer Alan's original approach (because it allows special correction code
for Hebrew, recognition of gimatria, and other tweaks that can't be done with
myspell), but this one isn't too bad either.

The fact that the Hspell-based dictionary is GPL, not LGPL, shouldn't be
a problem because it won't come prepackaged with OpenOffice anyway. It will
lie as a seperate package, only to be installed with the user asked for it.
The Aspell spell-checker on Linux follows a similar approach: Users install
the LGPL "Aspell" with only English support, and then can individually install
language packages, some of them are GPL.
