While you don't need foil tape , it offers two advantages: 1. it makes the exterior more fireproof. If you expect sparks from burn barrels or dancers near your HY, then covering up that expensive tape will help prevent the structure from burning down.
2. the foil tape also reflects the sun's UV rays. That keeps the expensive tape's glue from frying in the sun. I've got three years on my original tape and expect to do four.
