Hello.

The magnetic pick-ups that A. Seidler has made himself work very precicely. But
with them you must have metal strings. One big advantage is that they are
practically free from feedback. That is the case with piezo, too. You can get
of course get a nasty feedback from them too, but it takes so much sound
pressure, that such occasions are far out of normal stage/studio/rehearsal room
situations.

The trompettes of Titanic are equipped with piezo-system, and it has been
really tricky and frustrating to adjust them to balance with overall dynamic
and sound. sometimes I have used small extra mic, like AKG 416 gooseneck close
to dogs to avoid using piezos.

Titanic has 2 channels out from 3 microphones. It has channel selecting
switches and volume knobs for all mics. The cable is standard insert-cable,
also sometimes called Y-cable. The input-end has stereo-plug and the 2 outputs
are mono plugs.

One must remember that this Titanic has a solid body, like electric guitars.
The problems of amplifying acoustic instrument are very different.

Fishmans and other miniature condenser microphones, with or without goosenecks,
are good solutions too.

Famous and praised maker of microphone systems for guitars "B-Band", (which has
it's roots in Finland), might have something to offer for us viellists, too:

I hope this gives you some ideas. But remember: first make your instrument
sound wonderful acoustically, then gradually turn it (and your technique) into
electricified. You will notice that it is a new territory. Your wallet will
notice it too...

Esa

Hi Esa

What alternative to piezo mikes do you suggest?

I will look into that Yamaha mixer...

Thank you

Augusto
