Er, they weave it into cloth after spinning it into thread (just like wool only a lot more work as it is finer). There was a huge industry in the county of Lancashire (where I am) the UK doing that - and I mean HUGE. Your shirt is probably woven from cotton although its all done by machine now. As we keep saying, get it from Texere yarns in the UK, It's perfect for HGs (and sold as such) and, although you have to pay for postage, it's not that much and you do get a lot - order it on the Internet - even easier than a phone call . Search for cotton slivers at http://www.texere.co.uk/ (I think that page was down for a little time but it's back now). They post worldwide and in US$ it's around $5 with about the same for postage.
