Hello,

All of you have been a very valuable help and you probably saved me some hard earned cash. The kit-idea sounds now like very expensive KIT-litter to me. ;-) I’ll orientate on a chromatic+all step-in-model for a nice price now. I would feel much more comfortable with a properly built HG but the prices scare me even though I find it reasonable and sometimes even cheap considering the work and craftsmanship that has been put into it. [...]I have some things to (re)consider.

If you are considering buying a hurdy-gurdy my text:
"What should a beginner look out for when buying a hurdy gurdy?"
written a while ago might be helpfull. You find it here:
http://simonwascher.info/HGbuy.htm

A quite complete list of makers is included within the hurdy-gurdy wiki:
http://drehleierwiki.a.wiki-site.com/index.php/Kategorie:Instrumentenbau
here you find a list of makers worldwide by country and in alphabetic order if you scroll down.

The most likely place for Hungarian HG’s would be Hungaria of course, and because of that tried to find a builder in Hungary before, but well the Hungarian character stew (I did not get further then “Szerényi Béla”) ate me alive so I left that quest for what it was!

you will find Bela Szerenyi and other hungarian makers adresses in this list of makers too. They will respond to phonecalls or mail or letters sent to them im english or german (or hungarian...), it just might take a few days.

kind regards

Simon
