I said above I am new to the Gurdy thing... I am, but have "lurked" on
this list for at least a few years now. And I guess this is as good of a
time as any to make this observation. There are obviously some very
talented and knowledgeable people here, but I have been surprised by the
closed nature of the list. I belong to many lists both professionally and
personally - few are as unfriendly. This strikes me as sad, as I love the
Gurdy and wish to learn. Having posted a "hello" or two that were
ignored, to being quietly told to "get on topic" by a list elder does not
make for an environment welcoming to those of us new and curious.

Huh. Are we talking about the same list?

Regarding the Muskett method book:

I prefer Google for my internet searching, and I find a number of resources that sell the Muskett book. And although I am not exactly on the current cutting edge of hurdy-gurdy making these days, nor is my website particularly flashy, or current technologically, Google lists my site within the top five or six hits when I look for a variety of combinations of "hurdy-gurdy" and "method" and "Muskett". I have had information about this book, including price and a current email contact for Michael, right on my site's "home" page for over 10 years.

Arle, the US Amazon site lists the book as "currently unavailable", which is not really the same as "out of print". UK Amazon lists it, as do a couple of other UK sites - a good clue that it likely isn't out of print. Here in the US, it is listed for sale at Lark in the Morning, and although it isn't obvious via the internet right now that I can see, in the past Dusty Strings has had the book for sale. Except for the Dusty Strings lead, all of these were found among the first 10 hits of a Google search for "Muskett hurdy-gurdy method".

I don't get too involved too often with list discussions, but I do manage to read most of the postings, and I haven't seen many inquiries here about finding copies. Despite Brian's impression of the closed, unfriendly nature of this list, I can't think of a better place to inquire about where to find resources if you are having trouble - look at the (somewhat) recent postings about where to obtain strings and cotton, etc. People are itching to jump in with suggestions and advice.

By the way, I bought a number of copies of Doreen's method, directly from Michael, for resale; I have one copy left which I would be happy to sell to anyone interested, at the current going price of $50 including postage in the US. Contact me off list if interested...
