Wont it be a good idea to build an instrument that would easily fit into a
standart box and witch will be accepted by all airport companies to travel in
the overhead boxes in the plane together with the owner?

  Hi to David!
Chris Wright and I found that our Boudet lutebacks fit very well - in their
soft case and with tools and such - inside a 100 qt Coleman cooler with wheels
and a handle. We had the inside fitted out with some foam and I glued in some
inside straps that could secure the instrument in the case. The issue is how to
keep it closed (there is no lock, etc) and I have simply used strong tape. The
few times TSA has decided to open the case they tape it back up. I have a photo
and some explanation about the instrument inside the case so that TSA can have
a name for the strange thing, and so far (two international and about six
domestic flights) have had no problem. The weight is about 32 lbs with
everything - very manageable as compared with the weight of the Pelican cases,
and I found one for about 80 dollars on sale at the local sporting goods store.
  Good luck!

    Greetings from Minnesota
So, is the 1660 Pelican case the case to purchase to use as a Flight case
for a luteback "Boudet" hurdy gurdy?
We need the flight case and are in question as far as if it has been the
"cats meow" for any lute back options for flight cases.
At pelican .com the price is $319.00 which does include the "pick N pluck
foam".
If I remember correctly someone at the over the Water festival had flown
with that case.
Living in Rural Minnesota, we have too many puddle jumper planes that have
zero overhead compartments to stash a luteback, so we must have a flight case.
SO is the Pelican 1660 the one?
    Thanks
