Hi,

I have found two different tuners that work really well. For general use the
Sabine AX3000 Contact Chromatic tuner is great. It will "stick" to the
instrument with damaging the finish. It is low profile and comes in different
wood finish. I used one for years and I know many people who still use them.
Musicians Friend carries them.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Sabine-Contact-Chromatic-Auto-Tuner?sku=211045.
They are a little expensive, but well worth the money. The tuner is always
there and never needs to be hooked up and moved. Great for a quick check
between tunes. Won't fall off the music stand or get left behind. They run
between $50 and $80.

I also use the Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner. This tuner a more normal style. I
use it with a clip on mike. I usually hook it up to the tirant peg. I use it to
help tune my tangents or when I want to tune the instrument to A415 for playing
Baroque music with other Baroque instruments. It is very inexpensive and I have
several of them with different instruments. The run about $20.00.

My dream tuner is the Korg OT-120 Orchestral Tuner. It is about $120. It is
extremely versitile and will tune in different historic temperaments as well. A
clip on mike would also need to be used.

My instrument has a built in tuner, but I still tend to use the CA-30 when I am
going to be needing a tuner for a long period of time.

I hope this helps.

Hi all,

I am still very much at 'square one' getting to know my new gurdy, teaching
myself a few tunes,

and learning the habit of tuning the beast. Can anyone recommend a specific
electronic tuner

that works well with gurdies? I bought a nice small portable one but it is
pretty useless -

the needle is all over the map when I play any open string on the gurdy -

I assume because of the resonances?? I think in the meantime I will just buy a
GC pitch pipe.

Also - I am still very interested in networking with other gurdy players in the
southeast,

(Knoxville, Nashville, Atlanta, Asheville...) perhaps getting some lessons? If
you live

in this area please send me an email directly.

thanks!
