Also Gavin's comments on "complete history" and "properly threaded"
messages is somewhat non-sense to me. Most e-mail programs properly
thread mailing lists. I don't have any problem with that and I don't
think people having difficulties with it. And if you want complete
history on a thread don't delete messages very often. If you want to
see a thread'a one year old message do a quick search on google.
True, but not all people reply/post new messages properly to mailinglists Personally, I like forums for searching / browsing an online archive. This prevent a lot of duplicate questions. For mailinglists, nntp might be a better alternative / addition. It's basically created for that purpose. gmane has nntp <-> mailinglist. but I don't trust it :/ Registering / subscribing is, for me, a big threshold. I often would like to reply on some forums with solutions, but I don't want to register...
Mailinglists require you to receive all mail, with lots of mail that you don't want to read..
