back in the early betas of Tournament.com they had a similar problem where every time you logged in it would query EVERY SINGLE server which bogged down even the fastest computers. Maybe some steam thing is doing the same to look for your friends or something, but yes, wireshark needs more use. (I will be getting some Cisco routers and stuff soon so dd-wrt wont matter except for the uber wireless connection that AFIK noone else has (it is like like a 300 mbit point to point wireless connection), there might even be a fully working 3550-48 at surplus this week for about $50-150 (I get inside info))
