I just ran wireshark while starting portal.  About the time the menu is 
fully loaded the packets start to fly.  What are these packets?  Is 
valve stealing all your data! omg no... it's querying all of the source 
servers.   The data is going to hl2.exe not steam.exe so I would say it 
looks like they left some multi player code in there that should not run 
for portal.  I bet hl2ep2 does the same thing.
