Please post the Mailing List FAQ that states all this. Until then, I think 
you're going to have to live with it. 

At this point, the sheer number of people experiencing it (everybody) is cause 
for alarm. Thus far I have found no workarounds, but it's certainly not from a 
lack of trying.

Agreed, it is a serious bug, and they are clearly aware of it and of
how upset people are about it.  The point remains that THIS IS NOT THE
PLACE FOR COMPLAINTS.  This is the place to:

1) Gather or inquire technical details of said bug
2) Share and discuss any work-arounds for said bug

Airing of grievances belongs on forums and blogs and Valve's customer
support channels, not on a mailing list for independent server
operators.
