Also, correct me if im wrong but with goldsrc games you could have this nice
little banner image as part of the download where as now, at least in tf2,
it doesnt work that way?

As for map hosting solutions, unless it has already happened, ive often
though it would make sense for server operators in certain geographical
areas to chip in for a download server with custom maps on it etc, would be
pretty cheap to get a huge connection if lots of people were paying for it.
