Gotta say, I don't really care what you do with your server (although that approach does sound a wee-bit exploitative -- and potentially lucrative considering what some of the event items seem to sell for) but I got a chuckle out of "so everyone gets their fair share" when discussing a means of gaming the system.
Also liked the "especially since other people are cheating worse" part.
