I'm sorry... I was working directly with Fletcher on this until he got busy
and forgot to reply. Yes, they are both the same...

I asked you twice to check the output of status command, to see if server's
IP and the public IP are the same. You never replied :(

Subject: Re: [hlds] TF2 Servers Randomly Drop Off Master Server List - WHY?

Hello Everyone...

The problem with my servers randomly not showing up on the list continues,
however the problem has increased in frequency as of teh last update. I
don't want to restart my servers all the time just so they get picked up by
the Valve servers. This whole issue started out of the blue about a month
ago and every TF2 server I run on my box is affected. The CSS servers are
perfectly fine!

I tried the "heartbeat" command to announe the server is alive but it does
absolutely nothing. From what I've read, other people have found "heartbeat"
doesn't work for them either. My servers still won't show up after executing
that command from the console.

Can anyone tell me a way to get my TF2 servers relisted on the Valve server
list that doesn't require me to restart the server and kick everyone who's
still there. Is there a command I can execute every map change that would
force this to happen instead of relying on the game's automatic features for
this?

Am I the only one experiencing this? I can't understand how that can be....

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Looks like they are not sending any heartbeats. (Don't look for UDP
heartbeats, these should go through team.) Can you check your server log?
Did they report any errors? How long have they been up? Can you try
restarting just one of them?

Hi Fletcher,

At your request, here are the IPs of two of my five TF2 servers that just
showing up in the server list again.

64.120.99.38:27015

64.120.99.39:27015

I won't do anything to fix them until I hear back from you.

Thank you for checking this out. It's driving me nuts!

Mike, send me your server IPs, and let me know the next time it's happening.
I'll see what your server is sending us. (If anything.)

Chad: Thank you for the wiki info, it was very interesting. From reading it,
it's almost like my server's heartbeat stops so the master server drops it
from the list and only running the HLDSUpdatetool or overwriting the
InstallRecord.blob file with a newer one makes it start beating again.
Weird. And compared to what some people write here on this list, my use of
the word "retard" is probably won't offend people in the self-demeaning
context it was used. If it did, I apologze. I will try to be careful about
my choice of words in the future. Thank you again.

Fletcher: That would make since and I've seen that before. Thanks for
confirming that. The problem in this case is that my servers "were"
up-to-date according to the hldsupdatetool because no changes were shown
according to the update screen. Are you referring to some other sort of
update to the server needs that I'm not aware of that are being released
with out the usual notification and don't show up ont the update tool's
screen? Again, I run multiple servers and all of them will run just fine but
then randomly become delisted while other identical servers on the same box
remain listed fine.

Cud I have rittened any moar typoess in that poste?

Don't read that. Read this:

It's probably our fault.

I suspect it's simply that your servers are not getting notified about an
update, and so they aren't listed because they are out-of-date. The
out-of-date notification isn't working right now. We will have it resolved
in a future steam client update. Our (*my*) sincere apologies for this, it
was an omission when we (I) got rid of the UDP communications.

Also, pretty much ALL of the UDP communication is going away within the next
couple of months, with the exception of clients pinging your server. (And
the game communication itself, of course.) If you are doing anything that
relies on it, you will be broken.

A lot of server operators are using a nemrun script that uses a WebAPI to
poll if they are out of date.

Your humble servant,

Fletch

Thank you for the reply dontwannaname..... I'm unfamiliar with this "master
server list ini ", but from what I'm reading into your statement; are you
saying that if Valve changes or takes one of it's servers offline , a game
server could potentially stop being listed in the master server list because
the server it's trying to connect no longer exist due to an entry in a file
on the server that is no longer valid? If that's the case, why would 4 of
the 5 identical servers on the same box work correctly and only one or 2
randomly stop being listed. Also why wouldn't the game server just go to
another Valve listing server to be listed? Sorry, I sound like a retard but
I just don't know enough about how the master server list actually works.

Is your master server list ini up to date? You could try deleting the
directories that aren't in the tf folder. The only thing that's there that
matters is the sv pure white list. Then you can dl a fresh copy of those
steam files from the tool.

Fellow Server Operators and Valve Readers,

I have gotten into the habit of checking my TF2 servers to make sure they
are appearing in the Valve master server list because about every week or so
they just stop showing up and my player counts fall through the floor. At
least one or more of my servers will just randomly stop showing up in the
server list while the others show up just fine. It's not always the same
one(s) and I have no idea why it happens.

If I simply restart the server(s), they still won't show again until I run
the HLDSupdatetool on them, even when there's nothing to be updated. After
running the update tool and seeing no updates, the broken servers begin to
show up in the list again after they restart. I just ran an experiment and
copied the InstallRecord.blob file from a working server I had just run the
empty update on to one that still didn't show up in the server list. I
restarted it and it showed up correctly after receiving the new
InstallRecord.blob file from the other server. WTF?

Has anyone else noticed this and/or know how to stop it from happening? It's
very frustrating to find my servers simply gone from the list and running
empty.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
