I don't ask for support - I can do the security fixes myself (faster than valve ;)), and if I'd wanted improvements, I'd agree to buy a new PC, probably together with Half-Life 2 (...when it's done (tm)) - currently, I'm happy with CS as it is since 1.5.
Playing CS 1.5 online would be possible, just look at the major parts of this thread. I could do most of it myself, and it would all be in accordance with german copyright law. But I doubt that Valve is going to allow it, and this is what I mourn about. Giving examples where a company did the same might show us what our reality is like, but that doesn't make it any better. Valve showed how different they are from other companies, when they actively supported half-life for 6 years. Seeing how they ignore every discussion about this issue just makes me believe they're not going to give their permission.
