I'd agree with you if that were the case, but Steam doesn't do what WON
did. Well, it does what WON did, but then a lot more, all in order to
support their new business and distribution model. WON too had its share
of growing pains because I remember getting pissed about not being able
to play a game I had paid money for when it was down.

But what it comes down to though, is that we're talking about
multiplayer games (those who can't play CS:CZ or HL itself have a
different and legitimate beef), and multiplayer games are subject to the
peculiarities of this medium. If it isn't WON, Steam, or cheaters, it
could be our own connections preventing us from playing. This isn't
console gaming where things work out of the box 100% of the time, and
the roadblocks that have prevented me from playing happen seldom enough
that I can forgive 'em and keep coming back.

I won't deny you that the outages are annoying. I've tried about a dozen
times to get on my servers today to no avail. I'll take this multiplayer
platform any day though, to the crap that battle.net and its kind have
setup.
