N.B. On the map change front its generally not the file / disk access
that causes the lag as on all modern IDE disks / subsystems the CPU
load caused by the physical data access is negligible, its the high
CPU spike as the game server reinitialises and loads the data said data
once read from disk. Hence SCSI disks are relatively pointless when
you compare the price / performance differential. That's not to say if
money is know object it wont help just that is not really a contributing
factor to the map change spike any more.

I am also aware of many people who claim that FreeBSD has a higher
performance when running a dedicated game server than linux does, but
I obviously didnt do my research as you say. Can you give me some site
examples with performance numbers that back the claim up? Maybe with
your input I will be convinced to switch back to fbsd.
