In 2.6.20-rc kernels ther is a option for Core 2 Duo architechture, so you dont have to use EMT64 optimized code anymore. And my experience 32bit servers performs very bad on 64bit operating systems, because the kernel have to emulate the code and because of that FPS is poor and the server consumes more CPU.
Shortly: Buy the Core 2 Duo, AMD sucks at the moment. -- Valtteri Adam Thorn kirjoitti:
Good Thing Jonathan isn't a intel fanboy..................................... If you run a 64bit Linux OS, the AMD64 (Opteron Hardware) performs just as good or better than the Intel EMT64.. Intel's wannabe 64bit Technology.. Which is just Emulation of 64bit processes.. Good thing Intel can copy AMD patents... If you run 64bit app and have it run SRCDS in 32bit.. The OS is still 64bit and you gain the performance there and the kernel is different and has less overhead.
