First you can try the fps your kernel can hanlde out of the box by using fps_max 0 . The Debian kernel for example gets you the 1000fps out of the box. For security reasons i rebuild it with only the drivers i need and loadable Modules support disabled (In my opinion the less code you can execute on a server the better). The most important thing is not to get high fps. The most important thing is to get them stable. The most player do not realise a difference between a 300 500 or even 1000 fps server. What they will easy notice is when the serverfps will drop from 950-50 etc....

Maybe you get already the results you need with the standart kernel.
