Im not sure about that.

This is something that has happen to us not too long ago in the past.
Related to the TF2 servers, there was a plugin that gave grenades. The pyro
nade which would set others on fire ,would actully crash a windows server(
if you were in the radius of the blast), but would work perfectly on a linux
machine. this was a known issue at the time, and may be fixed by now.

If the engines builds were are identical , shouldn't it have worked on both
platforms or crashed on both (windows/linux)?
