I wasn't manually spawning him at all. I assumed the map was trying to spawn him because Halloween mode is on. Unfortunately, I can't consult my logs to see what the crash reason was. I think I may have a .core file I can check, though.
Anyway, I just went back to using my plugin (Force Halloween: https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=165587) since I know I'm not getting crashes with it. It's a shame, as I wanted to do things the "right" way without involving SourceMod.
