A Google Group might be good because it can be used as mailman serv with a nice visual frontend and archive. People who like this current format could keep using it or people who are for forums could opt out of email updates and just browse through the frontend. Everything would be much easier to find and it could also host as file repositories for admin resources or a dedicated place to upload crash dumps.
Beyond that I actually wish this list had more actual discussion in it. There a few people on the list that treat it like a glorified newsletter from valve and if anyone starts a thread other than a valve dev or replies with something they personally believe has been clarified already or is not relevant they become very aggressive and attack the person. Oddly enough they are also the fist people to complain about getting spammed by the list and the ones that generally break all threaded email clients with broken ">>>>>" spam.
