It was also really popular even before Valve officially added it to the game. It's a simple map, but a lot of people liked it, which was probably why Valve added it. The only map addition that have puzzled me is junction, which plays poorly in your typical 12 vs 12 servers (I suspect it was made for 6 vs 6).
