I was for going with the design team recommendation, even though it was weak, 
because at least it was something…  Maybe if we are lucky a stronger 
recommendation will emerge?

It all depends on how much you care whether what we recommend is actually an 
IETF standard, and how much you care about performance on wi-fi transit links 
vs. security features or protocol maturity.  There is no way to do a direct 
comparison that will pick a winner, because different people care about 
different things.
