But thin bells tend to wrap or fold if the screw ring stucks sometimes.
If modern bells are not made from the mushroom-shaped flat material,  
wound together
& widened a bit - later - they are made from a flat disk mostly &  
soldered
to the main part of the horn, no matter if cut later or not. AND, the  
neck of the bell
is thin therefore & most sensitive against "screw abuse".

If the bell is "clapped on " with the flat hand, it must not produce a  
ringing tone, but
a nearly dead noise. So no interferences with the sound will occur.
