I don't know about this particular writer, but I posted a link to the first English article I found about this subject to back up what I heard years ago at the Amsterdam conservatory in a psychoacoustics course given by a very reputable Dutch professor from the University of Amsterdam. We can hear up to about 20.000 Hz, but above +/- 5000 Hz we have trouble hearing musical relationships between pitches. We got a demonstration with a melody in this region and the quote below was true: "Melodies played using frequencies above 5000 Hz sound rather peculiar. You can tell that something is changing but it doesn't sound "melodic" in any way." I've not yet found an audio example online, but will keep looking. _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
