Well I have always carried a classical guitar foot rest with me in case the
chair I am sitting in doesn't fit.  My foot rest only has three adjustments,
but
I know there are foot rest that have infinite adjustments.  I also have always
played with the horn on my leg.  I have tried it off leg, but have never felt
comfortable doing that.  I suppose off leg is the best way, but hey, at my age
I
am lucky I can hold the horn at all.  :)

Subject: [Hornlist] Elevated Foot Support Issue

Several years back an Alexander Technique instructor recommended I place an
object (phone book?) beneath my right leg in order to deal with playing
position
problems when sitting (I have scoliosis and was in a back brace during my
formative years).  I considered myself tall and lanky enough to deal with her
advice in my own fashion by placing enough layers of micro fiber cloths on my
right leg and lifting it by the ankle from time to time in order to bring the
bell up and position the horn at an optimal level depending on the height of
the
chair I sit in.  This proved to be an especially idiotic solution last
Wednesday
night when my leg suddenly started trembling VIOLENTLY in the second movement
of
Tchaik 5; even after putting my ankle back down and finishing the movement with
my horn off the leg it just wouldn't stop until sometime in the third
movement!!  So I'm back to looking for something light enough and portable
enough to place under my right leg (I prefer to keep the

bell on the leg most of the time).  Does anyone know how other horn players
have
dealt with this issue?
