EUREKA! A guitar foot rest is in an answer I can live with! How come I didn't
think of that? I suppose it serves me right for giving up the instrument after
[I thought] I mastered a few Sor studies! (Although I suppose this idea might
have occurred to me 3 weeks from now when we're playing Manuel Ponce's
Concierto del Sur for Guitar & small Orchestra; Bill Zito's the soloist, a
tremendous player and great guy to go to for guitar/lute questions) My sincere
thanks to all who responded. Helping each other solve our little problems with
real answers is the best thing about this list. BTW, Steve F, I have a
pro-photographer friend who also plays horn, I'll run your response by him to
see what he thinks. To: The Horn List <[email protected]>

As a classical guitarist, I'm well acquainted with this one. You can buy an
adjustable foot stool for $15 or so at almost any guitar store. Here's an
example

Another choice is a piece of photographer's equipment called an "apple box."
Here's on that I keep in my teaching studio, along with the above-mentioned
foot stool.

That one is 2" high - they come in a few heights: 1", 2", 4", 8", 12". It's
bigger than a foldable foot stool but it'll still fit in many music bags and
only weighs about 1 kg. The adjustable foot stool I have doesn't really
adjust as low as 2" so that's why I keep this around as well. I usually use
this 2" apple box under my right leg when I practice - if I don't, I end up
pointing my toes on my right leg, which gets tiring after a while, or
putting my left foot sideways under my right foot (really only works with
sturdy shoes on).

Hope that helps.
