Chris,

This may not be much help to you but I had the bell cut off an old horn with
a view to having a screw coupling added. This was for transport purposes on
a train which was a nightmare during rush hour. I never did get the coupling
fitted.
Anyway I bought a more expensive horn with detachable bell which I now use
95% of the time. But I use the mutulated horn for practice in the car or
whatever, or sometimes at rehearsal. The only comment that I have received
is that projection of the sound is much reduced. Intonation does not seem to
suffer.
So there.
