Lawrence I use a Sony PCM-M10 and am very satisfied. Well-built, easy to use, high quality recording even with internal mics (I use a Rode external stereo mic that gives even better quality), phenomenal battery life - 43 hours (yes, forty-three) on 2 AA batteries in WingfieldAudio's test, that gave the zoom H2 a measly 6 hours. Extremely long battery life confirmed by me (but not measured) in real use. Olympus make well-reviewed recorders too.
