John Wunderlin commented on my post:

I use a H2 to record board meetings and it does a perfectly good job. It
has too much noise for any type of high quality music recording and the
external mic input is a stereo mini jack with no phantom power. This is not
a great concern if you just want to record your home practice session

I have to respectfully disagree on this point- my unit has a tiny
fraction of the noise my Minidisc had after transferring to my
computer. It may not be studio-level quality, but it's amazing for a
sub $200 device! If you have a lot of noise you may have a defective
unit. The H2 with external mics have been reported to have quite a bit
of noise in some situations, but not with the internals.
Here is an example recording I made recently of my WWQ in concert.
The only edit I did was fade in/out. Also, this is a 192kbr mp3 to
save space in uploading. The wav version is even cleaner.

I was comparing the noise level and overall sound of my H2 with its internal
mics to my Oade Brothers modified Marantz PMD661 and a pair of Schoeps
cardioids that I use for a lightweight high-quality music recording system.

As you said, the H2 may not be studio quality but is a good value for the
price.
