Hi,
If anyone else found the recent update to JOSM making GNS name merging
more difficult, I found the change that made the biggest difference to
how I work on the process:

"Less obtrusive node symbols at low zoom"
I had to turn that off, I need the obtrusive node symbols to help me see
residential areas when the OSM data layer is inactive.
