Thanks for confirming the noises! It really sounds like breaking. It does have an amazing array of sounds, but I agree - to me the prints are great, and I actually have very little idea what I'm doing!

As mentioned in another reply, the smaller paper can be loaded without removing the tray, but the first couple of times it helped me to be able to see all of the tray, sliders, etc. and then have an accurate idea of what I was dealing with when leaving the tray inserted.
