Like you I'm very impressed with the prints that the DJ130 produces, especially on HP Premium Plus Photo Satin, but having said this, mounting this paper can produce problems caused by the rough "sandpaper" backing.
This is my experience of mounting this paper:- 1. First of all used Self-Adhesive foamcore. Photo would initially stick, then gradually come away from the foamboard. 2. Moved to Rollataq, using a wide paint-roller to apply to the photo. No problems with the photo separating from the foamcore but found Rollataq messy and wasteful. If you should get any of this glue on the face of your photo, it's ruined. 3. Now using 3M spray adhesive. There are a lot of spray adhesives on the market, and have found 3M's spray adhesive to have the highest tac/strength. I have two methods of applying spray adhesive, based upon the size of the photo:- (i) Photo size under 18 inches, spray both photo and foamcore. This will give a permanent bond. Just a word of warning, use foamcore with a paperbased surface. I recently tried a piece of foamcore that had a very smooth synthetic surface and the adhesive would not hold. If your unsure, do a trial first. (ii) Photo size over 18 inches, spray photo and mount to adhesive foamcore I am using this method to mount photos up to 40 inches in length. Another option is to use 3M,s 568 laminate. From looking at past posts, this product appears to work well, but unfortunately here in Australia, they don't sell the size I'm after, hence 3M's spray adhesive. Maybe spray adhesive and Gatorboard is all I need to know? I'm guessing that I will just send my prints out when I need fancier lamination, etc., but perhaps there are low-budget ways for me to do this stuff in house too? If anyone has advice on mounting materials and techniques, or if you can suggest a book or website to learn more, please let me know. Cutting suggestions are welcome too (right now I use my light-table with a straight edge and a graphic-arts blade). Thanks!
