My suggestion: Make a file 24" wide by 2" tall in photoshop that has one light grey pixel somewhere it won't show, like right at the edge of the roll and another one 2 inches along. You can then print this to make the paper advance - if you have heavy canvas for example, the cutter won't cut it anyway, so you then have no choice but to advance the canvas and take it off with scissors etc.
Oddly enough, if you make a completely white file in photoshop, the printer driver seems to optimise it away completely - in other words the print job appears to complete successfully but the paper doesn't advance. Software's just getting too "intelligent" if you ask me :-) If you have a number of prints, then yes it is much more economic to send all your print jobs first and then the 2 inch paper advance on the end of the jobs.
