I suspect that you got a roll of paper intended for a different printer, you can get 24" wide rolls for the superwide printers. Can you put the roll on the spindle (obviously it's not snug, it just rests there) and clear the back of the printer? The roll feed does nothing but hold the paper, it doesn't drive the paper in or out, so it might work just sitting there. Another option is to save the core from the paper that fits (after you've used it) and re-roll the odd paper onto it. You might also make inserts (two 3" circles of plywood with a 2" hole cut in it) to plug the ends of the roll.
