I replaced my DJ 130 some time ago with a Z3100 (which has MUCH more cutting power), but it seems to me that the papers I had the most problem cutting were cotton and/or thick. You are most likely right when you say weight is not the sole determining factor. I do know that my cutting performance improved a great deal when I replaced the cutter assembly. So much so that I even bought a spare to have on hand.
