It's simply that I did not choose, write or have anything to do with the
licence and am not in a position to change it.

As Mark Tutt stated in an earlier post, Michael Cannon is currently on
active duty. We have seen that his access to the Internet is sporadic. He
will hopefully be back and sort this out. I suppose if he wants to make any
changes to the licence he would do so after taking legal advice which I
don't think he can in his current situation.

Thomas has stated his opinion first hand in the forum. I pointed a link to
his updated license page from our home page. As far as I can see, the
project has had and continues to have Thomas's blessing and I will ask him
to allow some time for Michael to respond, given his current situation. What
he said in his original post was:

>>I don't want that you guys have to change the license again, but legally
it's probably required. Not to protect me or HSQL, but to protect other
people from buying RedBase :)

I have seen your more recent post too and I don't think you have a problem
as an end user, because you can always add a copy of the Hypersonic licence
into the HSQLDB source and compile it yourself.

Kevin was enquiring about the HSQL Development Group. This was a group
formed by the CORE members who got together through the Internet in the
early days. Later Michael said he had registered it as a non-profit
organisation. Michael and Mark are from the US, I'm from the UK. I have
never met or spoken to either of them or any other HSQLDB developers, but I
have found them all dedicated to the effort, especially given the severe
personal difficulties they have had in recent months. I was given the titles
Kevin is asking about by Michael. I don't like titles but currently these
are the roles that I have to fulfil within the project to the extent that I
can, and that does not include changing the licence.

As I said before to everyone, please do not continue discussion of licence
issues in this forum. There are two separate places for it.

Fred Toussi
