Hi I succeeded to align the 480 shot panorama!
Key to that was NOT using the assistant, selecting a reasonable anchor (the one selected by default was a mostly out-of-focus patch of grass from the very edge of the panorama). Using "Positions incrementally from anchor". However: every click takes 2 minutes of 100% CPU. Yawn! (no disk access, no swapping) Next step is rendering. (I'm very curious whether the excellent quality of the test sector is repeated for the whole panorama!) Thanks for the answers, Bruno, Nick.
