I've just finished some analysis of a similar problem, and wrote it up in my
thread on
Hugin Slowness...
Bottom line: I believe there's a problem in the area of control point
management.
I compared two panos:
- both are 48bit TIF panos, approx 90MB per file
- one has ~150 images, the other ~50 images
- both are multi-row panos, LDR
- the 50 image pano has 1600 ctl points
- the 150 image pano has 13k ctl points
The 50 image pano is sluggish. The 150 image pano is painful:
- File Save or Save-As is horribly slow. Takes minutes of CPU; *NO DISK ACCESS.*
- Every change to the control point list takes a minute or more (delete,
insert, etc)
- About a minute delay per action in the Mask tab
- (Fast) preview and crop tabs are slow. Layout tab feels like a hang. I didn't
bother
timing it
I'm guessing the control point management system is based on a simple yet
rather
inefficient algorithm. I've not yet dug into the code.
In your situation with 22k control points, it will be even slower.
blessings,
pete
