Hi Maskin, I think the easiest solution to your problem will be to replace this Savarez nylon string. Gut strings are generally the best choice for the Hurdy-gurdy because they render a great sound and less string excursion when compared to the crystal nylon string that you are now using. The diameter also plays a big part in string excursion with the larger diameter strings moving less than the smaller ones. All this at a trade off related to the fact that the larger strings require more tension to get up to pitch and can (if taken to extremes) destroy an instrument. The second concern is balance with the other strings. You do not want your G to over power the other strings which will increasingly occur when the diameter goes up. Finally the builder recommended string is always a safe bet as he or she has built the instrument and usually tested it to be optimized by a certain string type and size. In your case Helmut Gotchey is the expert on which string to use and he may be contacted at:[email protected] He is usually very good about answering his email. Hope this helps. On top of that, it seems I have lost my micrometer tool. The new string is a Savarez Corelli Crystal Forte ref. 733 F. /Fredrik On Jan 19, 9:13 pm, "Reymen Marc" <[email protected]> wrote: > Over to mr Gotschy himself i would recommend... > Have you measured rhe dia from the old and from the new string??? > Marc --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "hurdygurdy" group.
