¿is it a viola or violin string? They do not work the same.

With my phoenix I did not try the crystal, but I used several dominant
stark (high tension), and finally tried savarez evah pirazzi viola for
both low and high g and got the best (for me) results. It is a bit
more expensive but works very well. Anyway it is usual to get some
tangent rattle with the open string (no keys pressed) and cranking
fast, on many instruments.

That spirocore is a metal core string, higher tension e.g;

dominant stark G, viola 4/4: 5.2 Kg.
spirocore G, viola 4/4, medium: 6.8 Kg.

(check http://www.thomastik-infeld.com/upload/TI_viola%20folder%2005_07print.pdf
)

The vision G string is 5.6 Kg, maybe a middle point to try. Could not
find values for the pirastro strings.

With more tension normally you get more volume, and this has to be
taken into account as the whole balance is changed.

As Simon pointed out, with metal wounded strings the gauge is not a
good parameter to take into account; an aluminium wounded string will
be usually thicker than a steel wounded string (with same kind of
core) as aluminium has less density than steel. And metal core strings
are usually thinner than, for example, gut core strings. And
additionally, how the string has been threaded has an influence on the
stretchability and stiffness (compare a spirocore and a flexocore).

It is easy to get lost when talking about the neverending world of
strings and flavours :-) not everybody likes the same.
