sorry, to say it, but several players tend to disagree with this. The Corelli Crystals are Nigel Eatons choisse for example. Many types of strings work well to perfect if its proprties are right. This all depends mainly on the sound desired by the player. To find the right string there are several properties that need to be observed, two influence the displacing of the string: * stiffness tells how the string reacts on bending (not telling about its string excursion) * stretchability tells how much the string can change its lenght: the stretchability is the core attribute to decide a strings amplitude of vibration (string excursion). If a string is not stretchable it might be bendable as much as it likes - it cannot get to the side as it is fixed on both ends. To go to the side it needs to achive extra lenght aka stretching. (if a string is stretchable but not bendable it also will not work) * effectiveness - a third parameter is, how much of the invested energy gets lost in the process of stretching and bending the string: this determines the effectiveness of a string aka how much of the energy input is left over to be transformed into sound. Diameter and materials are secondary influences on the forementioned parameters. kind regards, Simon --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "hurdygurdy" group.
