There is no surer way to create a "fate of hard times" than to say  
this.  I'm not saying the life you choose may have you rolling in  
money but really, how about phrasing it, "I'm accepting a life of  
doing what I love" instead?  "Hard times" can mean so many things!   
You can have all the money in the world and still have a miserable  
existence.

And all the sound engineers I've worked with have needed "secondary"  
incomes but that wasn't a burden, they chose other fun things to make  
money at and golly, except for one guy who spent himself into  
bankruptcy on electronic toys, it's working really well for all of them.
