I would not dope the tangent stems with anything. Soap would make them slippery 
and thus liable to turn on you while playing. If the tangents aren't going in 
all the way, I would very gently use an X-Acto blade to take off minute amounts 
to get them to fit right. Finding where they are rubbing can be a bit of work, 
but in my experience they tend to pick up a bit of a "shine" where they are 
compressed in a tight fit going into the hole, but I wouldn't ever use soap on 
them because of what the side-effects would be.
