There is another option you can try as well: candle wax (called paraffin in the U.S., but not in Britain). I know some makers who bur their keys on lumps of the stuff in order to make them more slippery and to reduce the impact of humidity on them. (The wax provides a barrier to humidity: it won’t stop it, but it does slow it down.)
