Hi Margarita,

Yes, I too think that it may be an issue with dryness though this is more
unusual than moisture and high humidity swelling. You have not had your free 6
month instrument check up yet so if you need help you can get it back to us and
we will take care of the issue for you.

We do sell the PTFE in a small applicator bottle (it is the same product as
Neil Brooks' Slippery stuff)  you will find it on our web site
Hurdygurdycrafters.com also our HG maintenance DVD has information on how to
deal with sticking keys.

Have a great day
Hurdygurdycrafters

Actually, it's more likely the _lack_ of humidity as the heat goes on causing
the keybox to shrink slightly.  (Margarita lives in a Chicago suburb - our
weather is the same... :-)

In any case, the graphite lubricant is the low risk first approach to try.
I've been successful just pulling the tangent and lightly rubbing the sticking
area of the shaft with a pencil lead, no need to risk any dust flying around
with a brush.

Thanks everyone! I'll try the soft pencil approach and take it from there.

Yes, get the slippy stuff.
It probably is the humidity causing the wood to swell a little (it will
probably recover when the air gets drier so don't do anything too extreme just
yet).
While waiting for the slippy stuff (liquid Teflon), you could try getting a
very soft pencil - at least a 4B - and scraping a little of the lead (graphite)
onto a slip of paper with a small knife. Pick the dust up with a dry paint
brush and lightly dust the point where it is sticking. be careful as it remains
black where it touches so don't spread it around and KEEP WELL AWAY FROM THE
WHEEL. You may be able to see where the sticking is happening by looking for a
shiny area on the wood where it's catching.
That method fixed three sticking keys for me several years ago (and they are
still OK).
If neither method works, it may be a visit to the maker is ion order for some
more serious surgery  (but it probably will work).
The slippy stuff is better to work with but the pencil is usually to hand.
If you do try something, do let us know if it worked.
